The Cancer Coalition of South Georgia is calling its first-ever Valdosta fundraising gala a success, raising more than $15,000 for the Coalition’s local services, education, research and outreach efforts.
The formal event, held on February 7 in the Valdosta State University Student Union Ballroom, featured a delicious plated dinner accompanied by music from the Jukebox Oldies Band and followed by dancing. The wide array of auction items ranged from gift cards provided by local businesses to a cocktail party provided by Sue and Stan Cox of Covington’s Dining & Catering, and a “Circle of Life” diamond necklace provided by Susan and Chuck Steel of Steel’s Jewelry. Throughout the evening, guests had the opportunity to learn about the Cancer Coalition’s mission and its work in Lowndes County.
Nearly 150 guests joined in honoring community advocate and cancer survivor James McGahee, the inaugural honoree for the ValdostaNight for Hope. McGahee said he was humbled by the honor, further noting, “I have lived and worked in this community for decades and I know the importance of the Cancer Coalition’s work fighting our high rates of cancer.
Coalition CEO Diane Fletcher stated, “We are extremely grateful to our corporate partners, Southeastern Federal Credit Union, Keystone Foods/Equity Group, and Miller Coors as well as to our sponsors: Fairway Outdoor Advertising, First State Bank, Georgia Power, Guardian Bank, Guy Whidby of Partners Benefit Group, Harley Langdale, Jr. Foundation, Radiology Associates of Valdosta, South Georgia Medical Center, Surgical Associates of Valdosta, Thacker Dermatology, Valdosta CEO, Valdosta Orthopedic Associates, and Valdosta State University for their generous support.” Fletcher also recognized the Night for Hope volunteer committee members, Teresa Gudely, Jerry and Walter Kozuch, and Vicky Stephens.
