United Way Encourages Residents to Give Back to Local Community
Press release from the issuing company
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015
Last week, the Greater Valdosta United Way was recognized by the Chamber as the Leading Business of the Week, and for good reason. This nonprofit organization has been providing funds for programs in the local area since 1954, and while their payroll deduction campaigns allow individuals the opportunity to donate to any non-profit that exists in the world, they encourage supporting those in our area.
“One of our organization’s greatest accomplishments is that individuals are being helped right here in our community,” said Bobby Yarbrough, executive director of the Greater Valdosta United Way. “For example, students are able to attend after school programs, therefore increasing school attendance and graduation rates. Families are afforded the opportunity to become financially independent and women and children who are victims of assault are provided safe places to lay their heads at night.”
The Greater Valdosta United Way has supported causes from education and wellness, to financial readiness and homelessness. Their good work relies upon donations from civic-minded members of the community.
The Greater Valdosta United Way has been a proud chamber member since 1977. “The Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber has provided exposure for us to those not only who utilize the programs we support, but to others looking to get involved in their community,” noted Yarbrough.
Each week, the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber recognizes a business in our community to receive the Leading Business of the Week recognition. To learn more about the program, visit the chamber’s website. The Chamber would like to extend a special thank-you to South Georgia Vein Center, the official 2015 Sponsor of the program. A new Leading Business of the Week will be recognized by the chamber later today.
