Scintilla Charter Academy: A New Addition to the Lowndes County Educational System

Press release from the issuing company

Monday, February 23rd, 2015

The importance of a well-educated workforce is never far from the minds of people who work in economic development and of our business leaders who depend on good employees. We all need an educational system that enables students to succeed.

Scintilla Charter Academy is an exciting new addition to our educational system, and its founders deserve our support. Why is Scintilla exciting?

First, the Academy’s educational methods are innovative. Project-Based Learning and Service Learning will enable students to connect the subjects they study in school to the positive impact they can have on our community, and that’s an idea worth promoting.

Second, SCA is exciting because it addresses at least two problems faced by school systems everywhere in America: overcrowded classrooms and underserved students. With class sizes restricted to 20 students, Scintilla’s teachers will have more time per student to enable a high level of success in educational attainment.

Third, Scintilla is a public, tuition-free Academy for K-4 grade levels that can accept students who live anywhere in Lowndes County and in its cities. And fourth, SCA will contract with its students’ parents for an extensive volunteer program at the Academy. We all know that parent involvement is crucial to the successful education of children.

Innovative teaching, high academic expectations, public choice and availability, and parent involvement add up to an exciting opportunity for our children.

We encourage all our business leaders to make your employees and associates aware of the benefits SCA has to offer its students. Please take the time right now to download the FAQs from the Media Center at www.scintillacharteracademy.com and to distribute them to your employees and other business associates, particularly those who have children who will be entering Kindergarten through the 4th grade in the 2015-2016 school year.

The Academy will open a new application period beginning February 22nd. Applications will be available on their website and at a series of public meetings held at various locations around Valdosta and Lowndes County. The announcements of meeting places and times will be available in local media and on Scintilla’s website.
