Human Resources MBA has named Valdosta State University's Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a minor in human resources as one of the top programs in the country. Human Resources MBA offers a comprehensive collection of recommendations for human resources education. The site ranks top degree programs, including online human resources degrees, along with featured articles and resources for success in the human resources profession.
In making the selection of the elite group of 25 bachelor's degrees in human resources, representatives of Human Resources MBA evaluated undergraduate programs aligned with the curriculum guidelines of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). In addition, programs selected are accredited for excellence by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and have an active student chapter of SHRM.
In April of this year, the Langdale College of Business Administration (LCOBA) completed the requirements to have its business management major and human resources minor aligned with SHRM guidelines.
"The minor requires several specific human resource management courses that expose the students to the kinds of information that human resource professionals have determined to be important," said Dr. Mel Schnake, LCOBA graduate program director. "We previously had a certificate in human resource management, which was more popular than we expected. A minor is more formal and more students were interested in it, so primarily it was student demand that drove the minor."
SHRM guidelines define the parameters that should surround human resource degree programs and establishes a framework for human resource education that is anchored in extensive research. Course requirements include employee and labor relations, employment law, job analysis and design, managing a diverse workplace, performance management, training and development, and workforce planning and talent management.
"SHRM is the leading professional organization for human resource management professionals," said Schnake. "The fact that our program is aligned with SHRM guidelines should let employers know that our graduates have the knowledge to be successful in the human resource management field."
In addition to alignment within SHRM guidelines, the LCOBA has been accredited by the AACSB for several decades.
"The AACSB accreditation is the highest level of accreditation worldwide," said Dr. Wayne Plumly, dean of the LCOBA. "Less than 5 percent of the 13,000 business schools worldwide have achieved AACSB accreditation. This accreditation signals employers and other universities that VSU has the highest standard of achievement and that our graduates are more desirable than AACSB non-accredited schools."
VSU's SHRM student chapter provides undergraduate and graduate students with professional networking opportunities, job shadowing, internships, and employment opportunities with human professionals locally and throughout the state of Georgia.
