U.S. Congressman K. Michael Conaway (TX-11), Chairman-elect of the House Committee on Agriculture for the 114th Congress, today appointed U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) as Chairman of the Subcommittee for Commodity Exchanges, Energy, and Credit.
“Congressman Scott has done a solid job as a member of the Committee on Agriculture and has earned the chairmanship of the Subcommittee for Commodity Exchanges, Energy, and Credit,” said Chairman-elect K. Michael Conaway. “He and the other Subcommittee chairmen and women will aggressively oversee the federal agencies under their jurisdiction.”
“It is an honor to serve as Chairman of this respected subcommittee, and I look forward to working with Chairman-elect Conaway in this capacity to further the Committee’s agriculture initiatives,” said Congressman Austin Scott. “I am humbled by the opportunity to oversee many important issues impacting U.S. producers, from commodity exchanges to future agriculture energy needs. Almost every farm operation depends on institutions like the Commodity Future Trading Commission and the agricultural credit and lending services of the Farm Service Agency. I thank Chairman-elect Conaway for his trust in me, and I look forward to representing agriculture producers back home in Georgia as well as across our nation in the 114th Congress.”
The Subcommittee on Commodity Exchanges, Energy, and Credit has jurisdiction over the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Rural Development, lending institutions, and agriculture credit and loan operations within the Farm Service Agency.
Congressman Scott will serve his third-term as the U.S. Representative for Georgia’s Eighth Congressional District. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Risk Management, and owned and operated an insurance brokerage firm for nearly twenty years. Congressman Scott is also a member of the House Armed Services Committee.
