Valdosta's September 2014 Employee of the Month Announced

Press release from the issuing company

Thursday, September 18th, 2014

Valdosta Mayor John Gayle and Community Development Director Mike Martin honored Stephanie Blanton as the September 2014 Employee of the Month at the Sept. 11 City Council meeting.  Blanton received a framed certificate, a check for $200, and her name appears on a plaque that is displayed inside of City Hall.

For most of her 14 years of employment, Blanton served the city as its Landscape Inspector where she was responsible for reviewing plans for construction, modification, and renovation of commercial buildings, and advising contractors of changes required for tree and landscape compliance.  Blanton is also one who steps up to assist other departments when needed.   She has worked in the Customer Service Center assisting citizens with various services.  She has worked as a technician in the Community Protection Division assisting the city marshals with case files and tracking citizen complaints.  Recently, Blanton also filled a need in the Planning and Zoning Division that was understaffed for ten weeks.  She accepted the additional duties in addition to completing her own work duties.

Blanton took it upon herself to get the necessary technical training for the New World Permitting Computer System in order to be able to fill in when the Permit Office was in need of additional support.  This office recently lost a tenured employee, which required a major shift in staff responsibilities.  Since Blanton had most of the skills and knowledge required, she was reassigned and accepted the title of Plans Coordinator Technician.  Because of her years of expertise in the landscape field, Blanton also continues to assist the Arborist Division with plan reviews.

The City of Valdosta applauds Stephanie Blanton for being a team player and a model employee and for being named the September 2014 Employee of the Month.
