The City of Valdosta will host a 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 8:45 a.m., at Valdosta Fire Station #1, located at 106 S. Oak Street. Valdosta Fire Chief Freddie Broome will preside over the ceremony in remembrance of those who lost their lives that day 13 years ago and in honor of the continued efforts of public safety professionals.
“The lives of those we lost and the outstanding heroism displayed by our public servants who sacrificed their lives during the tragic 9-11 attacks will never be forgotten,” said Mayor John Gayle. “When we consider everything going on in the world lately, we should be reminded of how fortunate we are to have an exceptional team of first responders who are ready in a moment’s notice to save the lives of others. I invite Valdosta citizens to observe a moment of silence with us on 9-11 to remember the fallen, to honor the courage and commitment of all public safety professionals, and to give thanks for the continued protection and freedom we have as Americans.”
Mayor Gayle, Fire Chief Broome, Chief of Police Brian Childress, the combined Valdosta Honor Guard, and other members of the Valdosta Fire and Police Departments will be present to remember the innocent victims and honor the brave heroes who perished during the tragic event. Members of the Valdosta Fire Department Pipe and Drum Corps will perform and a special flag presentation by the Woodsmen of the World will also take place during the ceremony.
The public is invited to attend. For more information, contact Public Information Officer Sementha Mathews at (229) 259-3548.
