Thursday, August 14th, 2014
The Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) Valdosta Career Center will host a second workshop Thursday, Aug. 21, for employers who want to hire Moody Air Force Base personnel among the more than 100 expected to be released from active duty this fall. The first workshop was held in July. The second workshop will be held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the career center, located at 221 South Ashley St. Military personnel will be available to speak with employers about the skills, training, and military experiences of the veterans.
They will focus on the benefits employers will receive by hiring veterans, including tax credits, skills and work ethics of the veterans, and certification programs available at local educational institutions, such as the Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, Valdosta State University, and Georgia Military College’s Valdosta campus. The workshop is a continuation of the Operation Moody Transition campaign, a community-wide effort by local businesses, employers, and colleges to identify jobs, internships, and educational opportunities for the ex-service personnel at Moody.
For additional information about the workshop, contact Miranda Moore at the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce at (229) 247-8100, extension 231, or call the Valdosta Career Center at (229) 333-5211. GDOL provides a wide range of employment-related services to help veterans find jobs and career paths. A list of GDOL career centers may be found on the department’s web site at www.gdol.ga.gov
