Friday, March 28th, 2014
Mayor John Gayle and Valdosta Chief of Police Brian Childress honored Officer Jimmy Griffin as the March Employee of the Month at the March 6 City Council meeting. Officer Griffin received a framed certificate, a check for $200 and his name appears on a plaque that is displayed inside of City Hall.
Officer Griffin’s responsibilities at the Valdosta Police Department are to maintain a working knowledge of the most commonly enforced Federal, state, and local laws, present oral testimony in court, respond to calls for service, and complete necessary paperwork in accordance with department policy.
Officer Griffin displayed his knowledge, training, and experience while responding to an armed robbery call in January 2014. After observing a suspicious vehicle speeding from the location of the call, he pursued what he believed was the possible getaway car. Knowing guns were involved in the robbery, Officer Griffin carefully conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. After his careful investigation, he determined that the four subjects in the car committed the armed robbery. Officer Griffin played a key role in apprehending the suspects and bringing honor and recognition to the Valdosta Police Department.
The City of Valdosta applauds Officer Jimmy Griffin for his courage and dedication and for being named the March Employee of the Month.
