U.S. Representative Jack Kingston met with top business leaders on Thursday afternoon. Discussion included the current state of affairs with healthcare policy and the area support of Moody AFB.
Congressman Kingston voiced his understanding of how crucial Moody is to Valdosta-Lowndes and the surrounding communities. Local leaders were commended for efforts to sustain the base with acknowledgement that leaders in Washington D.C. are familiar with area support for Moody.
U.S. Representative Austin Scott also recently met with the South Georgia Military Affairs Council to discuss ways the area can protect Moody in the event of a BRAC in the coming years. While there is no guarantee of a pending BRAC at this time, Congressman Scott encouraged the council to do all it can to prepare for the possibility.
SGMAC is comprised of the Valdosta-Lowndes, Lakeland-Lanier, and Adel-Cook and Nashville-Berrien Chambers of Commerce in addition to prominent business leaders, city and county elected officials, and retired airmen. The group serves the community by actively supporting the vitality of Moody AFB, which contributes approximately $400 million annually to the local economy.
