Charlie Marsh Honored as 2013 November City Employee of the Month
Staff Report From Valdosta CEO
Wednesday, November 13th, 2013
Mayor John Gayle and Utilities Director Henry Hicks honored Charlie Marsh as the city’s November 2013 Employee of the Month at the Nov. 7 City Council meeting. Marsh received a framed certificate, a check for $200, and his name appears on a plaque that is displayed inside of City Hall.
Marsh, who began his employment with the City of Valdosta in 1992, is a Maintenance Helper at the Water Treatment Plant, where he maintains and repairs all equipment used in the operation of the plant, troubleshoots and calibrates electronic equipment and directs activities of the laborer crews to ensure work is completed properly and safely. Marsh takes great pride in the Program Maintenance Inspections (PMI) at the Water Treatment Plant, ensuring the Sodium Hypochlorite Generation System is working effectively, which not only treats the water for citizens consumption but also saves the city money.
Recently, Marsh was temporarily assigned to the Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) as an operator to assist with the belt press operations. The solids inventory at the WWTP was building up, as a result of one belt press being out of service. While awaiting the delivery of a new belt press, the WWTP needed to run the belt press for two shifts versus a single shift, as was the procedure. Marsh had the necessary experience and the willingness to be readily available for the additional duty, which prevented the city from experiencing any permit violations.
The City of Valdosta applauds Charlie Marsh for his team spirit, dedication to the city mission and for being named the November 2013 Employee of the Month.
