Friday, November 22nd, 2013
The Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber hosted its Management Essentials Workshop on Tuesday, November 19 from 8-11 A.M. at Drury Inn & Suites. The workshop provided necessary tools and skills to help participants become more effective and influential as business leaders.
Ryan Williams of Nexxtep discussed the company’s Process Plan software, Share Point, and Microsoft Lync. He also advised leaders regarding employee accountability. He focused on the importance of effective communication of the big picture to employees while providing tips for setting clear expectations, expressing shared accountability, and the need for employee evaluation. “Visibility creates accountability,” said Williams in reference to monitoring employees.
Carla Carter Jordan discussed communication across generational gaps. “We can still use technology but we can also use the art of face to face communication. It is still the most powerful tool in communication,” said Jordan. A variety of mobile devices were discussed, in addition to the use of newer technologies, like text messages, Vine, and SnapChat.
Curt Fowler delivered “Communicate to Lead,” a presentation which covered a range of topics from motivating employees and becoming more clearly understood, to goal alignment and developing employee strengths. He used examples from John F. Kennedy’s speech about putting a man on the moon as well as a video of former NFL coach, Tony Dungy to express the relevance of a leader’s ability to communicate and motivate.
