Three Named as Valdosta City October Employees of the Month
Staff Report From Valdosta CEO
Thursday, October 31st, 2013
Mayor John Gayle and City Engineer Pat Collins honored Doug Stevenson, Brian Smith and Aaron Spencer as the city’s October 2013 Employees of the Month at the Oct. 10 City Council meeting. These employees each received a framed certificate, a check for $200, and their names appear on a plaque that is displayed inside of City Hall.
Stevenson began his employment in February 2004 as a Laborer and is currently a Crew Leader; Smith began his employment in August 1995 as a Laborer and is currently a Heavy Equipment Operator; and Aaron Spencer began his employment in
February 2007 as a Laborer and is currently a Light Equipment Operator. These men work for the Engineering Department, Stormwater Division and help to ensure the safety of our community through regular inspections and maintenance of the city’s stormwater system.
Recently, the city received a phone call concerning a capsized boat in a pond located near Forrest Street and Valdosta High School. The Police and Fire Departments responded and determined that no one was involved and that the boat had been in that location for an unknown amount of time. Due to the concern that nearby children might find the boat and attempt to access it, the Stormwater Division quickly responded with two service crews with a backhoe operator to remove the danger and dispose of the boat.
The City of Valdosta applauds Doug Stevenson, Brian Smith and Aaron Spencer for their outstanding attitudes and work ethics and for being named the October 2013 Employees of the Month.
