Wiregrass Georgia Technical College has been approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Technical College System of Georgia to begin offering Paralegal Studies. The College will offer a diploma program and an associate of applied technology degree in Paralegal Studies. According to US News and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, paralegals and legal assistant positions are expected to increase by 18.3% over the next several years. 

Paralegals aid attorneys in nearly every part of the legal profession. They do a variety of tasks to support lawyers including maintaining and organizing files, conducting legal research, and drafting documents. The Wiregrass Paralegal Studies program will provide students with training in ethical obligations, state and federal laws, legal correspondence preparation, family law matters, basic real property law, criminal law and procedure, civil litigation, tort law and substantive contract law, and wills, trusts, and probate. Students interested in the Paralegal Studies program can choose between the diploma or associate of applied science degree pathways.

Wiregrass has announced that Sean Scally will be the program coordinator. Sean joined Wiregrass in 2012. Prior to joining Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, Mr. Scally practiced law in Topeka, Kansas as a staff attorney with the Kansas Association of School Boards.  The association’s clientele included the 293 Kansas school districts, as well as, several community and technical colleges.  Aside from representing and assisting schools with general legal issues, Mr. Scally negotiated on behalf of several boards of education, and often served as a hearing officer at due process hearings.  Mr. Scally is a graduate of Valdosta State University and Washburn University School of Law where he served as a teaching and research assistant while completing his legal training.  

Classes for the Paralegal Studies program will begin during the Fall Semester B Term starting on October 16. Interested students can apply for admissions now.
