The Valdosta Rotary Club was named the “District 6920 Large Club of the Year” at the District Awards held in Dublin, Ga. on June 14. District 6920 is the largest Rotary Club district east of the Mississippi and includes 66 clubs.
The Valdosta club also earned a Gold Club Award and a Presidential Citation from Rotary International President Sakuji Tanaka. The 2012-2013 Presidential Citation recognizes Rotary Clubs that achieve an array of accomplishments that help them become stronger, deliver effective service and enhance their public image.
The June 25 meeting focused on the “changing of the guard.” 2012-2013 Rotary President Kerry Morris gave his final address to the club.
“I have the greatest respect for each member of this club,” Morris said. “I am truly humbled to have had the opportunity to serve the membership, and I look forward to the years ahead together.”
Morris presented Myrna Ballard with the 2013-14 Rotary president pin and gavel during the ceremony. At the meeting, Morris thanked the 2012-2013 Rotary board for their service. District 6920 Assistant Governor John Page recognized and swore in the new board members and officers.
