SGMC Health invites the community to take a step toward better health by joining a Walk with a Doc event led by physicians and residents from SGMC Health’s Medical Education Program.
The free community event will take place Saturday, April 25, from 9:30–10:30 a.m. at the Valdosta Middle School Track in Valdosta, Georgia. The walk is open to all ages and fitness levels, providing a fun and welcoming opportunity to enjoy light exercise while connecting with local medical professionals. Participants are encouraged to register in advance at
sgmc.org. Registered attendees will receive a complimentary event T‑shirt while supplies last.
Designed to promote wellness in a supportive, casual environment, Walk with a Doc allows community members to engage with physicians and medical residents outside the traditional clinical setting. Participants can focus on physical activity, ask general health questions, and build relationships that support long‑term well‑being.
“Events like Walk with a Doc allow us to meet people where they are and reinforce how small, consistent steps can make a big impact on overall health,” said Rachel Dillard, Director of Medical Education at SGMC Health. “It’s also a great opportunity for our physicians and residents to connect with the community in a meaningful way while encouraging preventive care and healthy habits.”
According to the American Heart Association, walking as little as 30 minutes a day can provide important health benefits, including:
-
Improved blood pressure and blood sugar levels
-
Support for maintaining a healthy body weight and lowering the risk of obesity
-
Enhanced mental well‑being
-
Reduced risk of osteoporosis
Walk with a Doc reflects SGMC Health’s ongoing commitment to preventive care, community outreach, and medical education. By bringing together physicians, residents, and community members, the initiative emphasizes accessible, sustainable lifestyle choices that support healthier lives.
