The SGMC Health Foundation officially launched Groundbreaking Growth, a $25 million capital campaign dedicated to shaping the future of healthcare in South Georgia. According to Vice President of Support Services and Chief Development Officer Hilary Gibbs, "This bold initiative comes at a pivotal time, as medical advancements accelerate and the needs of growing communities continue to rise."  

She shared that this is more than a campaign for infrastructure and innovation, Groundbreaking Growth represents a commitment to people, ensuring every patient, every family, and every community has access to the highest quality care, close to home.

Guided by five strategic pillars—Access, Services, Medicine, Continuous Care, and Vision—the campaign reflects SGMC Health’s unwavering commitment to improving health outcomes and redefining wellness for the nearly 400,000 individuals the health system serves each year. These pillars will support life-changing projects, including enhanced emergency and trauma care, expanded maternal and infant health services, greater access to specialty clinics, and strengthened rural healthcare across the region.

At the heart of this vision is a transformative expansion of SGMC Health’s main campus in Valdosta, which is actively underway. The project includes a new Emergency Department and Trauma Center, a state-of-the-art Women and Infants’ Center, and a welcoming Wellness Park that will provide a central space for health, connection, and community engagement, all expected to be complete in late 2026.

“This campaign represents a defining moment for SGMC Health and the communities we serve,” said Gibbs. "Groundbreaking Growth is about building a future where extraordinary care is never limited by geography or circumstance. It’s about honoring the strength, resilience, and potential of South Georgia, and building a legacy of care for generations to come.”

The campaign also looks ahead to the future of medicine through expanded partnerships with Mercer University School of Medicine, a cutting-edge simulation lab for clinical training, and scholarships to inspire and prepare the next generation of healthcare providers. Additional investments will strengthen continuous care programs, including hospice, assisted living, rehabilitation, and behavioral health services for seniors, ensuring that care extends through every stage of life.

Groundbreaking Growth will also establish a dedicated endowment to secure a stable financial foundation, enabling SGMC Health to meet the needs of tomorrow with the same compassion, quality, and innovation that defines it today.
