Rendering of SGMC Health's new Wellness Park as a part of its Main Campus Expansion

SGMC Health is pleased to announce a generous $500,000 gift from the Georgia Power Foundation to support the creation of a two-acre Wellness Park as part of SGMC Health’s Main Campus Expansion Project. This transformative initiative underscores the shared commitment of the health system and Georgia Power to enhancing community health and well-being through innovative and sustainable efforts.

The Wellness Park will serve as a serene green space designed to promote relaxation, healing, and connectivity for patients, visitors, staff, and the broader community. Situated on two meticulously landscaped acres, the park will feature:

  • Shaded rest zones with seating for relaxation and reflection

  • Open activity spaces to foster engagement and movement

  • Spacious walking paths encouraging physical activity and mental wellness

  • Thoughtfully curated gardens that provide a tranquil environment

"The Wellness Park is an essential part of our $150 million Main Campus Expansion Plan, which centers around a new Women and Infants’ Tower and an updated Emergency Department and Trauma Center," said Hilary Gibbs, Vice President and Chief Development Officer at SGMC Health. "We are incredibly grateful to the Georgia Power Foundation for their generosity, which will help us create a healing environment that extends beyond the walls of the hospital."

The park’s objectives include creating a peaceful, restorative environment for patients and families, encouraging physical activity and mindfulness, and fostering a sense of community that promotes health awareness. Its strategic location will also reorient the hospital’s main entrance, positioning the park as a welcoming centerpiece for the campus when the project is completed in late 2026.

"At Georgia Power, we recognize the vital role that green spaces play in promoting health and sustainability," said Joe Brownlee, Region Executive for Georgia Power. "We are honored to partner with SGMC Health in bringing this vision to life and enhancing the lives of individuals and families in the community."

As SGMC Health enhances its main campus, the Wellness Park symbolizes a forward-thinking approach to healthcare, prioritizing the integration of healthcare excellence with mental, physical, and emotional health initiatives.
