Valdosta City Schools is thrilled to announce that the Valdosta Board of Education has achieved the prestigious 2024 Exemplary School Board recognition from the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA)!

This esteemed honor showcases the board’s unwavering commitment to continuous improvement, transparency, and collaboration—core values that help enhance educational opportunities for every student in our district. The GSBA awards school boards that exemplify strong governance and leadership, fostering a positive educational culture that drives student success.

To earn the 2024 Exemplary School Board designation, the Valdosta Board of Education met and exceeded rigorous criteria. This included submitting detailed documentation of the district’s accreditation status, demonstrating fiscal responsibility, fulfilling educational and training requirements, and conducting a thorough self-assessment of the local governance team.

The GSBA Governance Team Recognition Program was created by Georgia superintendents and board members to reflect the state board of education’s standards for effective governance. It recognizes school boards that provide exemplary leadership and commitment to educational excellence.

Since 1998, GSBA has led the way nationally in establishing high standards for local boards of education, with a tiered recognition program that celebrates leadership at various levels.
