Valdosta’s Unemployment Rate at All-Time Low in July

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Valdosta registered an all-time low unemployment rate in July as the number of employed rose almost 800.  

"We are seeing positive labor market data across the state,” said Commissioner Butler. “The unemployment rate is down in every region, county, and metropolitan statistical area reflecting the strength of our state’s economy. Career opportunities remain high for job seekers as we continue to see rising jobs numbers in metro and rural areas throughout Georgia.”

In Valdosta, the unemployment rate was down one and six-tenths percentage points to 3 percent over the month, an all-time high for the area. A year ago, the rate was 7.3 percent.

The labor force decreased in Valdosta by 268 and ended the month with 65,319. That number is up 2,828 when compared to July of 2020.

Valdosta finished the month with 63,345 employed residents.  That number increased by 774 over the month and is up by 5,421 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Valdosta ended July with 56,400 jobs. That number increased by 300 from June to July and increased by 2,700 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims went down by 52 percent in Valdosta in July. When compared to last July, claims were down by about 91 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 717 active job postings in Valdosta for July.
