On Nov. 1, South Georgia Medical Center went live enterprise-wide with Epic’s Inpatient and Ambulatory Electronic Health Record. Epic replaced 17 legacy systems across three hospital campuses and a number of outpatient clinics.
According to SGMC Chief Information Officer Bob Foster, the launch at SGMC is a very significant step because caregivers and providers at each of the campuses can now see and act on the same set of patient information.
“This new software increases SGMC’s opportunity to improve patient care and safety while reducing costs by eliminating duplicate testing and allowing providers to see the same information,” explained Foster.
Additionally, SGMC patients can now have their medical information shared with other providers and hospitals across the country via Epic’s Care Everywhere. This gives providers a more complete picture of a patient’s health history when providing care. "SGMC shared records with over 25 facilities across the nation during the first two weeks of go-live,” said Foster.
