Valdosta Chamber Celebrates 100th Birthday of the Barber House
Staff Report From Valdosta CEO
Monday, October 19th, 2015
Thursday night was a magical evening at the Barber House. The Valdosta Chamber and honored guests celebrated the hundredth birthday of the Valdosta landmark in style. The historic house came alive with music provided by the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and melodic conversations between guests. Lobster Newberg and potato croquets were the stars of the candlelight buffet generously sponsored by Covington’s Dining and Catering. Guests were treated to a bountiful culinary array of both savory and sweet.
Carla Penny, Chairman of the Barber Trust Advisory Board served as hostess for the event and led the GALA committee along with Thressea Boyd, GALA Committee Coordinator in orchestrating the evening’s festivities.
The Barber House isn’t just a beautiful old building; in many cases, it is the first impression many newcomers will have of the Valdosta community. In efforts to protect and preserve this “doorway to the community” for years to come, the purpose of last night’s event centered around “Investing for the Next Century.” Many of the honored guests have already made generous donations to this cause, which are commemorated with plaques throughout the Barber House.
As the Capital Campaign continues, opportunities to donate to the Barber House are still available. For more information call 229-247-8100.
