Staff Report From Valdosta CEO
Thursday, May 14th, 2015
April came to a close with the fifth annual Corks and Forks fundraiser for Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. In partnership with the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts, over 100 guests enjoyed the food and wine pairing along with the Spring into Art exhibition.
Chefs for the event included Sue Cox, Owner of Covington’s and 306 North; Mikki Hudson, Owner of Jessie’s Restaurant and Catering; Keira Moritz, Owner of Steel Magnolias; and Rick Van Hook and Ian Crabill with the Wiregrass Culinary Program. Each prepared a special dish paired with wine for a delightful culinary experience enjoyed by the more than 100 attendees. Several vendors supported the event including Five Points Liquors, Frogtown Cellars, Inland Seafood, Publix, Quality Wines, and US Foods.
Along with the food and wine pairing and the art exhibition, guests enjoyed the beautiful piano pieces played by the talented Ethan Parker. Building on the art theme, some of the creative works of Wiregrass students were displayed and sold with the help of Stuart Mullis of Habitat for Humanity, auctioneer for the event. Several scholarships and other tax-deductible donations were also given during the evening.
Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase books, supplies, and other education-related items for students and programs at Wiregrass. The Wiregrass staff and trustees are greatly appreciative of the community support for workforce development at the College.
