Nexxtep Awards Second Second Annual Scholarship to VSU CIS Student

Nexxtep and Valdosta State University recently partnered to recognize senior Christopher Rich as this year’s recipient of the Nexxtep Scholarship for Outstanding Student in Computer Information Systems.
Chris’ impressive accomplishments include:
- Leading a team to rebuild a pier for a local wildlife group, completing his Eagle Scout award with the Boys Scouts of America.
- Being awarded a Fellowship with the non-profit organization The Mission Continues, serving over 450 volunteer service hours with the American Red Cross.
- Serving as a page in the North Carolina House of Representatives under Congressman Danny McComas.
- Serving as Vice President of the Valdosta State Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
- Serving in the United States Coast Guard as a 2nd Class Information Systems Technician from 2007-2012.
Chris has accepted a position with a large consulting firm in Charleston, SC, which he will begin after he graduates this week.
On Thursday, April 30th, we welcomed Chris, his guests and several faculty and staff members from VSU to our office for an award reception. Nexxtep’s Vice President and CTO Stuart Avera presented him with a framed certificate and a check for $500.
This is our second year presenting the Nexxtep/VSU CIS Scholarship. Last year’s winner, David Gully, is now employed with Nexxtep as a software developer.
