The Hospital Authority of Valdosta & Lowndes County, GA awarded the distinction of Hospital Heroes, to our community partner, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, for being named the #1 registered nursing program in Georgia by the RegisteredNursing.org website.

The ranking is among all colleges, universities and technical colleges and is based on the percentage of passing scores on the National Council Licensure Exam for registered nurses.

SGMC has worked with Wiregrass as a clinical training site for multiple degree programs for over four decades. When the associate of science in nursing program began in 2014, SGMC contributed funds and in-kind support to help ensure the program’s long-term success.

“We need well-trained nurses,” explained SGMC CEO Bill Forbes. “The fact that a higher percentage of Wiregrass Nursing students pass their nursing boards on the first try is a credit to all the Wiregrass faculty and staff. For this, they are definitely our heroes.”

Members of the nursing program faculty, as well as Wiregrass Technical College President Dr. Tina Anderson, were on hand for the Hospital Heroes presentation.

“SGMC is proud to have such a capable community partner and we are more than happy to hire these graduates to fill our nursing vacancies,” Forbes concluded.

According to Wiregrass, the RN program has a 100 percent job placement rate.
