Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Monday, August 27th, 2018

Valdosta Police Department unveiled a new Firearm and K-9 Training Facility.

The facility has undergone a number of upgrades and new additions. There is a new firearms training simulator at the facility that allows law enforcement to undergo training for different scenarios. Officers can train inside with the simulator, or outside on the gun range.

“This firearm training machine is high tech because you can shoot rifles and pistols, you can use tasers and pepper spray, everything we have and go in there and do video scenarios and actually practice judgmental shooting,” says Valdosta Police Chief Childress.

Not only is the building newly renovated, but there is also additional parking at the facility for the police department’s spare cars, which allows more parking for the public at the police station. The K-9 unit also has an area to train the eight dogs within the department.

In the near future, the facility will be open to the public.
