Georgia Schools Are Invited to Apply for a School Makeover from Georgia United Credit Union's School Crashers Program

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, March 19th, 2018

Georgia United Credit Union is excited to announce its 5th annual School Crashers program. Accredited public or private elementary, middle and high schools in Georgia and their supporters are encouraged to apply for a school improvement project that will be funded by Georgia United and involve school and community volunteers to "crash" their school. Nominations are accepted Wednesday, March 14, through Friday, April 13, 2018.

Anyone can nominate a school that they feel deserves a School Crashers makeover. To nominate a school, visit gucu.org/schoolcrashers and fill out a nomination form and write a short compelling story about why your school deserves a makeover.  Photos that illustrate the area in need of improvement are encouraged. Project requests for structural, plumbing or electrical enhancements will not be considered. The top winner will be announced on May 15, 2018.

After the 2018 School Crashers winner is announced, there will be opportunities for community members, educators, parents and students to join Georgia United team members to volunteer or make donations for this School Crashers event in July. Stay tuned to gucu.org/schoolcrashers in the coming weeks for additional information.

This will be the fifth year Georgia United has offered School Crashers makeovers. After receiving hundreds of nominations, Canby Lane Elementary in Decatur was selected as last year's top winner. They received facility improvements including landscaping, new facility signage, carpets, benches, playground and an outdoor courtyard/classroom. Five additional runner-up schools also received school improvement mini-makeovers before students returned to school in August 2017.
