The Lowndes County Republican Party honored one of its own at its regular monthly meeting held last Tuesday at Austin’s Cattle Company in Valdosta.

County GOP Chairman Scott Smith presented past chairman Sondra Supp with the party’s Achievement Award in recognition of her years of service to the GOP at the local, district and state levels.

“Were it not for the selfless work and determination of folks like Sondra, I don’t know that we’d be where we are today in Georgia as a party,” Smith said, referring to the GOP dominance in the state.  All partisan elected statewide offices in Georgia are currently held by Republicans and both houses of the legislature are controlled by the GOP. The party also controls Georgia’s delegation to the US House of Representatives.

Supp joined the Lowndes GOP when she and her husband, retired Air Force Col. Pete Supp, returned to Valdosta in 1990 to retire.  But Supp never stopped working for her convictions.

Since moving back she has served as county party chairman for three terms, chaired precinct and county GOP conventions, served on committees for the Eighth District and State Republican parties and volunteered at the polls.  She’s also worked with the Southwest Georgia Republican Women’s Club and worked on the committees that brought conservative luminaries Star Parker, Michael Reagan and Allen West to Valdosta.

“And I’ve worked on more political campaigns than I think I can count,” Supp joked, referring to her work on the Saxby Chambliss, Paul Coverdell, Jack Kingston, both presidents Bush and David Perdue campaigns, to name just a few.

Supp’s efforts were previously recognized by the party when she was tapped as Honoree of the Year in 2012 and is a past recipient of the party’s Patriot Award.

A mother of three and a grandmother, Supp is also active in the Park Avenue United Methodist Church where she and her husband attend.

The Lowndes GOP meets every third Tuesday at Austin’s Cattle Company located at 2101 W Hill Ave, Valdosta, Georgia at the Kinderlou Inn (I-75 and US 84). Optional dinner and social begins at 6pm.  The meetings start at 7pm and conclude at 8pm.
