Wednesday, April 16th, 2014

SGMC, Kohl’s Department Store, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and Safe Kids Lowndes County will be hosting Bike Smart! - a bike safety and bike rodeo program.

The event will be held Saturday, April 26 from 9:00am-11:00am in SGMC’s Surgery Center parking lot. This event is for children ages 5-12. Children will receive hands-on instruction in bike safety and learn how to wear a bike helmet properly.  Education will also be provided on bike laws and street safety. Children that participate will receive a fitted bike helmet, water bottle, t-shirt, and a chance to win a bike.

Sponsored by Kohl’s department stores nationwide, the Kohl’s Caresprogram affords shoppers in each of its stores the opportunity to purchase lovable, huggable plush toys and books for $5.00 each.  The profit from these sales goes to benefit local hospital partners like South Georgia Medical Center.  Funding for Bike Smart! comes from the sale of those items.

“We are excited to partner with Kohl’s, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and Safe Kids Lowndes County to host this fun and educational event for the children in our Community”, states Elizabeth Vickers, SGMC’s Foundation Director.
