Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has won Air Cargo Week’s prestigious World Air Cargo Award for Airport of the Year for a third time. The ceremony — held in Shanghai, China, as part of the Air Cargo China 2012 Exhibition and Conference — celebrates excellence in the global air cargo industry.

“We are honored to receive our third award from Air Cargo Week,” said Aviation General Manager Louis Miller. “Hartsfield-Jackson is committed to being a leader in the global air cargo industry and is happy to receive this recognition from the industry.”

The other finalists this year were Brussels, Belgium; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Incheon, South Korea.

Air Cargo Week magazine asked readers to vote, giving consideration to four key areas: investment in cargo services, special facilities, cargo clearance times and plans for future developments.

Hartsfield-Jackson is an attractive cargo airport because of its efficiency, low operating costs and lack of curfews. In addition, Hartsfield-Jackson has an innovative, trendsetting design of five parallel runways, seven passenger concourses and three cargo complexes to facilitate efficient and expedient connections for air cargo carriers.

The Airport’s convenient location near the three major interstate systems allows cargo delivery trucks to reach more than 80 percent of the U.S. industrial market and 79 percent of the nation’s largest consumer markets within two delivery days.

In October, the Airport will host the 50th anniversary of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) International Air Cargo Forum and Exposition.
