Mayor’s Council for Persons with Disabilities Hosts Banquet Oct. 13th

Citizens are invited to the Mayor’s Council for Persons with Disabilities 20th Annual Awards and Recognition Banquet, which will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at 7 p.m., in VSU’s University Center Magnolia Room.
 
The event, co-sponsored by Valdosta State University, celebrates exceptional people, organizations and businesses who are committed to tearing down barriers for individuals with disabilities in our community. Tuesday, Oct. 6 is the deadline to nominate a person or organization that has gone above and beyond to make our community accessible.Click here to access the nomination form, or email [email protected].
 
This year the event will also observe the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Dr. Salome Heyward, a civil rights attorney and well-known expert in disability compliance in higher education, will be the keynote speaker.
 
Tickets to the event cost $15 per person. Payment by cash or check for reserved seating will be collected at the door beginning at 6 p.m. on the evening of the banquet.
