Interim President of VSU Dr. Cecil Staton Announces Administrative Restructuring

During his first official day as interim president of Valdosta State University July 1, Dr. Cecil P. Staton issued a series of announcements to the campus community regarding permanent and temporary restructuring at the administrative level. 

Dr. Brian Gerber Named Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Hudson Rogers to Teach in Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration

I want to share with the VSU community that Dr. Hudson Rogers has informed me of his desire to step down as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs and return to the classroom, and I have approved his request, effective today. As Dr. Rogers prepares for his role as a tenured member of the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration faculty, I want to thank him for his service to the university and the Provost’s Office. I know his future students will benefit from his patient explanations, his encouragement to innovate and engage, and his genuine interest in their growth and intellectual development. Please join me in extending our best wishes to Dr. Rogers in this transition.

Also effective today, I am pleased to appoint Dr. Brian Gerber, Interim Dean of the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services, to the post of Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Over the next year, Brian’s outstanding service to the university will continue as he helps to advise me and guide our deans, department heads, faculty, staff, and students as we tackle the challenges the institution faces together. I look forward to working closely with Dr. Gerber and congratulate him on accepting this challenging position.

Traycee Martin Named Vice President for Finance and Administration

Effective today, I am pleased to appoint Traycee Martin Vice President for Finance and Administration of Valdosta State University. I am grateful for Traycee’s service as interim Vice President as well as for her many years of service to the university. Traycee’s leadership and her commitment to Valdosta State are commendable and significant. These are enormously challenging times for higher education. I look forward to working with her in this role to meet the challenges and opportunities that are before Valdosta State. Congratulations to Traycee upon this much deserved appointment.

Dr. James Archibald Named Interim Vice President for Student Affairs

I am pleased to appoint Dr. James Archibald to the position of Interim Vice President for Student Affairs, effective today. Dr. Archibald has a reputation for demanding the best from his students, and this passion for excellence will serve the university community well as we move forward to meet the challenges and opportunities of the coming year. James knows well the value of collaboration. I look forward to working with him and seeing how he reaches out to engage with the students, faculty, and staff during his time leading this division. Congratulations, Dr. Archibald.
